PITCH
My aim of making the movie was to highlight how today’s technology has changed personal communication. I would like to show this by displaying a contrast between today’s lifestyle to that of olden times.
It’s eight o’clock in the morning. Sara, Elena and Colin are at the DUC, the three of them are engrossed in their phones. Harry, who is texting as well comes and join them. All three look up and smile to acknowledge his presence but then go back to burying their noses into their phones. Suddenly, Sara exclaims that her grand-mom just texted her asking her to accept her friend request. They all look up and seem a little amused by it. However this incident makes Elena thinks aloud about what people used to do when they didn’t have phones and laptops. That’s when Colin challenges everyone to give up using their phones for the day and in-act out a day in college, as it would have been in the 70’s.They all agree to the challenge and continue with their day. |
As the day progresses and the four of them struggle not to touch their phones. They start getting withdrawal symptoms. At some point of the day Harry says, “I haven’t tweeted anything since the morning, my friends might think I am dead by now.” In order to distract themselves from not using technology, they all decide to go for lunch but the conversation on Lunch table is in monosyllables and punctuated with long periods of silence. With nothing to do they all start gazing out and admire what a beautiful day it is outside, thats when Harry is struck by the idea to go for a stroll to the Lullwater Park. So they all make a plan to go together.
To their surprise they actually have a good time. In fact they are so engrossed in chatting up and playing around that they lose track of time. The four of them see a change in themselves and resolve to reduce the use of their phones and try to plan more days like these. In the end all four of them are sitting at the DUC again and having dinner. The camera zooms into the phones stacked on the table and then it shows the four of them talking and enjoying themselves rather than texting as they would usually do. |
